Welcome back to a new decade, a new year, 2020 and the second half of the school year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break.

So far, we had a great first half of our school year, and anticipate that the second half of the year will be even better! Our students did an amazing job on their 2nd Benchmark assessments! We improved from 1st Benchmark by a whopping 200 plus points!!! We moved from an “F” to an “A”!!! Thank you parents for all your support in keeping your children and our students focused. I am very happy to announce that most of our students have made great progress for the first half of the year in all subjects. Teachers are sharing data about your child’s’ progress during class time and in the counselor’s office.  Teachers will continue working hard to ensure increased student progress by the end of the school year. If you would like to review your child’s progress, please feel free to schedule an appointment to talk with teachers, counselor, or myself. You may contact us at 1-662-745-8940 from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.

Our attendance was great during the month of December despite the cold and flu season. However, we encourage the attendance of every student when if at all possible, but if students are ill please keep them at home for the recommended 72 hours of recovery to prevent the spreading of flu germs to other students. This will be the last benchmark of the school year; therefore, it is very important that your child is in school every day, ready to learn and show what they have learned at the end of this benchmark. After Spring Break, reviewing and state testing begins. It is so important that all students are more focused than ever and at school every day.

Finally Parents, again I want to thank you for your contribution to a wonderful school year, thus far. I certainly appreciate those who have come to voice concerns, suggestions, and possible solutions. Don’t forget that my door is always open. We have an amazing school and I feel blessed to be part of Drew Hunter Middle School. Together we can make big differences in the lives of our students and your children.
